The 4Loko tour Santa Cruz will start at the Fun Spot at 4:30, and depart for Santa Cruz High at 5pm. Please try to be on time. The Cult video will be shown at Pacific Ave Cycles around 8:30pm-9pm. There will be prizes, mini-contests, and more to be had, so come on down. My only request is to respect your surroundings. Santa Cruz is different than Oakland and San Francisco; remember, you’re not in a bustling city, but a small town that is usually pretty open-minded. But shoot, sometimes you just don’t know what people are smoking around here. Let’s just say if a shop owner gives us shit, we should politely move on to the next spot. If a troll gives us shit, then feel free to heckle. Got it? With that said, hope to see all you heads on Saturday!
[6/10] Greg and I headed out to the shop yesterday to help Samar and Nick out, and I also shot this little bit with Nick about Saturday’s grand opening event. Be sure to come and check out the scene, because it’s gonna be rad.
[6/1] Samar hit me up the other day to let me know that he now has the keys to the shop, and that the grand opening event is still going down on the 12th. However, the address is 728 Main Street in Martinez, and not the location in Pleasant Hill that I’d thought it was at.
[5/24] I keep forgetting to post this up, but Samar Carrillo and Nick Ramirez’s BMX-specific shop in Pleasant Hill Martinez, STFBMX, is set to open on June 12th. In the meantime, check out their website.
We’re kicking off Epic Indoor’s new Saturday BMX sessions at 7pm with the premiere of Ride’s new video, “Range of Motion.” The premiere is free and begins at 7pm, and once the video is over, there will be a BMX session until 10pm. There will also be a few different best trick categories with prizes and a chance to have your photos posted on Ride’s website; we’ll also be having a raffle and giveaways, so come out, ride, and have a good time.
Crazy Chris and Bear Bikes of Salinas are hosting a premiere of Fit’s “Stay Fit” on Friday at 6pm, to be followed by a street ride. Click here for directions to the shop.
Rob from Calabazas Cyclery sent me this flyer for the South Bay premiere of Fit’s latest video, the rather ironically titled “Stay Fit.” Click here for directions to the shop, and I hope to see you there after the NorCal Classic.
For all of you that didn’t have the privilege to travel to Interbike and see the new Fit video, “Stay Fit,” Solano Avenue Cyclery is hosting a premiere at the Etiquette Lounge in San Francisco, at 6pm on November 12th. Click here for directions.
Marcus O’Brien’s ultra-rad trails epic is finally coming out, and the premiere is at 6:30pm on Saturday, July 25th at Bleachers Sports Bar in Redding (click for directions). In case you missed it last time, here’s the trailer:
[7/13]First Rule is hosting the Bicycle Film Festival block party for the third year in a row. This year’s event is going to be fucking rad. We’re going to have some really good ramps this year thanks to Colin, and Jase is going to weld up some rails for us (he’s the guy that probably welded your frame if you ride a Solid, S&M, or Fit). Also, I just uploaded the new First Rule website! There’s loads of content on there, so please check it out and bookmark it. There are a few bugs still, but I should have all of those squared off tonight. In other news, look out for some new videos of Tony Campos and Kurt Russell on Vimby.
[7/2] First Rule is hosting the Bicycle Film Festival Block Party for the third year in a row. We’re going to get things started at noon on Saturday, July 18th. This year’s event will be huge: better ramps, more prizes, merch booths, and much, much more. In addition to the Block Party, at 7pm there will be showings of four BMX films! You can buy tickets here for $10. We will be giving some tickets away, but I encourage everyone to go and support local filmmakers like Marco and myself.

In reaction to big business BMX companies in the early 90’s, 17 year-old Steve Crandall started a company of his own called Fat Bald Men. What began as selling t-shirts out of a backpack has turned into one of the most well respected DIY bicycle companies around. Through fortune and misfortune, the film follows FBM through their 15 years of mayhem as told by Crandall and the rest of the BMX bicycle community from close friends to influential icons like Dave Mirra and Mat Hoffman.
