Icer Air Edit
Mon, 10/20/2008 - 1:23am — Chris McMahon
The other edits that are sure to come out (Marco's and Christian's, and presumably the vaguely familiar-looking guy with the VX2000 who kept getting kicked out for not having a press pass...) will probably have a lot of different clips in them, so if your stepdown backflip or your doublewhip air isn't in here, it'll pop up soon enough elsewhere. Anyway, I've had people ask me if I'm going to put up the footage of Ari lawndarting into the asphalt and knocking himself out on that flairwhip attempt; it's not going to happen. I did talk to Ronnie today, though, and Ari's already out of the hospital and is chilling at home.
And here's a new Bay Game edit. Jackson's line at 1:26 is fucking legit.

yea, i think that was me, can i give you the edit when im done, i got nowhere else to put it. also got a good shot of ari's fall but im waiting to ask him first out of respect if he wants others to see it...
Crazy that Mike Krnaich has watched 2 riders now come out of a seizure. Ari is tough but has had some bad falls and some really good luck. Years ago he took the worst fall I have ever scene someone take. Vans vert ramp drop in straight to his face on the flat. I was the first to get to him and rolled him over on his side because he was choking on his blood convulsing face down. Fucked up shit.
It was a good contest, Mike did a great job with the ramps and set up.
JUST TALKED TO ARI, he is still feeling a little out of it. Hes like most riders and doesn't think about shit once the comp starts. He has had seizures before, even going back to when he was a kid. Said he already had a full face picked out and that he is going to wear it when he goes upside down. As far as the footage from who ever has it. Ari says POST IT, he wants to see what he did wrong, as well as send the message to show what can go wrong when you roll the dice. Said he was only in the hospital for 3 hours and they kept getting pissed at him for taking his neck brace off. On top of that, he said the course was sick and the vibe was good. When you do a comp you have to use good ramps or build new shit if you want to see guys go off, last year was insane as well and if I didn't have the SHITS for 5 days straight I would have loved to have been there and rode to say the least, course was sickballs. So slap up that footage, and Ari is alright, shaken, but hes cool. Told him to get some insurance from his new employer if he can.
I talked to some buddies of Mike Aitken and that fucking mess. BMX companies should insure their riders, end of story. If they made them salaried employees, than riders would be eligible. If you are not placing in the top ranks everytime you ride then get a job like the rest of us and get insured. Kills me how many guys go out there and kill themselves with no insurance. Everytime someone has a Stephen Murray type crash you cannot just start a fund to help cope with bills. Bills are always bigger and will take time to get rid of. Sometimes years and years. Browsing I think I found 6 benefits all for Mike Aitken, guy has a lot of love in the sport. Mike was not wearing a helmet either, fucking dumb move. Such an easy thing to do but so many choose not to. All fun and games til you bonk your head, not to mention what a moron you feel like when you realize that a helmet would have helped. But I am just a lame ass with my opinion, been there done that.
Damian, thanks for the update on Ari, I will pass it along to whoever asks. I don't know him that well, but the little bit I have talked to him in passing he seemed like a cool dude and I hope he has a speedy recovery.
Take it from someone who has met the concrete a few times head first, it take a while to get his head straight and sometimes, it does not always come back. If he needs any advice with full face helmets pass along my email to him, since I have always worn one since the 80's.
the whole levis bmx has health insurance
levis gave all of their riders full coverage health insurance
so if you want to support a trend they hope to start help them out buy going out and buying a shitload of levis
anyways
ari is nuts and i hope he gets better soon
