Good. Anthony when you read this, you are being a pussy I think. Remember what I told you at the park on Sunday, Crowbar lost his FUCKING LEG, and he still rides. Maybe I need to have Chris put up the picture from RIDE of him doing a "one-footed-footjam-nosepic." I mean seriously, what would you do if not for BMX? Thing is, you ride well, I saw you when you couldn't ride, yes gave you your first beer as well. Why throw that away. I have had 15 concussions that I know about, 2 air-lifts, and I have never once thought of stopping. I used to get shit from girls at my high school when I was a senior because I was the only guy at my prepie school that road. Now I see these chicks once in a while and they are all over my jock. "Oh how are you, do you still ride?" These girls never gave me the time of day, now I am the man. Riding is the shit Anthony, all of my best memories are linked to it. All my best and closest friends I met because of BMX. Look at Ron W. for instance. Hes over 40, or shit Vince "V-dogg" Torres is older than Ron and he actually took a break for a while. Now with Cunningham he for what ever reason, has decided to ride again. My guess is just because its still just as fun as it ever was, and he can ride with guys that are not hell bent on tricks or the scene, we just like to ride. I try and push myself everytime I ride because thats what makes me a better rider as I age. Hearing you talk about quitting BMX reminds me of a great quote from "Mike-D" after working at Scar's on Saturday; I saw him Sunday at Cunningham, and I was hung over as fuck. I asked him "what about you?" He said, "I woke up this morning and it tasted like a cat shit in my mouth." Thats the taste I got when you first told me this bullshit. Shit this is turning into a blog on the wrong page. Anthony I am telling you after riding BMX for 20plus years now, I have met far too many people that talked about when they used to ride. Do not make that mistake of becoming one of those guys that frowns when he says, "I used to ride." You do not want your kids someday to think or know that their father is a quitter. Oh woman don't like it either, whats that saying? Nobody likes a quitter. Suck it up man and get your ass out there. No one likes crashing but this isn't for pussies either. BMX man, "real the steel" as Cecil used to say. Get a bigger helmet, practice more, do something but do not give up my man. Push yourself, maybe that is your problem, you're not trying hard enough. Maybe you should wear tight pants with a studded belt. Guys dressed like that can ride eventhough they look like girls from the waist down. Or go out with a bang. I got some banger lines at Cunningham I have been eyeing up, but have not fired out for fear of not being able to ride the next day. But since your quitting maybe, I would be happy to point them out and you could go out with a bang! Sorry to call you out like this but the opportunity arose. People throw softballs by me all day long because they are looking for a rise or are trying to rattle me. But I only hit the ones worth hitting...
and i had a shitbagg on my stomach for 7 months and i was riding with it, but you should quit and me and old school joe will keep your bike
"holly shit squirrel had allot to say"
I think he is gonna take sometime off for now, concentrate on school and take care of his injury. He is not going to get better at the rate he is going. You can see during the bike session that he does some runs. How can he stop? In the mean time he will be doing some road biking which will keep up his stemina and will working on his knee to get better. At my 20th high school reunion many thought I put bmx behind me, but when they found out I told them I got back into riding 7 years ago the questions were ( what can you still do or can you do new tricks? what old tricks can you do?) I told them getting close to 40 years old I still feel like a teen when I ride my bike and nothing can take that feeling away. I even got a friend to ride out at the Morgan Hill park before they shut that down. He still rode but only Mountain bikes, but was amazed what he still had. He even rolled and dropped in the mini. Wow! I was so scared for him but thought it would be bad if he got hurt the first time out riding a skatepark. You should have seen that grin on his face! Price less! Not bad for 20 or so years later! Like so many others that I met and brought back bmx in there life. Thats how I met Anthony when he was coming back to bmx. Just admit it everyone! Your gonna miss him around! He is a cool guy to session and hang out with. Most of all the road trips we went on. So I guess next season we will have to convert another bike for the snow. hint-hint.(Snow bike) So with Anthony he will miss it and then come back. This is what I'm hoping! Good luck with school we will be waiting!
Maybe its a good time to get an end of summer jam planned Chris? People will be leaving for school soon and some will be visiting until Aug. and leaving.
I'm pretty busy right now with my new job at City Hall, contract work (the SJSU Geology Department website), trying to get a student loan, and looking for an apartment, but we shall see.
Knees are a bitch and yes they are scary. Im not sure the severity of your knee but I know a little bit on the subject. As for concussions its gonna happen when your rocking shit out, if youve never gotten worked over you will always wonder where the limits are. My suggestion to you- Pedal hard and do tons of skids. Fuck quitting that shits for skaters and such.
NOR*CAL BAY SHIT!
thanks guys, i dunno, im pretty confused at the moment. but yea, cycling is the best.
Squirrel....your words do mean alot. maybe a break from riding is what i need. i dunno how long, but everyone knows nothing is forever.
joe....we alwyas know we'll be friends, i will come out to hang out and shit. there are too many memories in the sport to just quit.
nick....knees are a bitch, for some reason it keeps getting filled with fluid. the roadbike has been doing alot for me though, i think my full mobility is slowly coming back.
Actually I just read what I wrote and to the outsider it would appear that I am burying you. I am not, and I think you get it. Just don't quit thats all. Taking time off fine, but that means your expected back. After my first air-lift, I didn't touch my BMX for about 5 months. I would see it as I walked past it in the garage collecting dust, flat tires, dogs pissing on the tires. I was afraid to get back on it, but like anything else, with time, comes peace and tranquility. A confident clear head will follow close behind, and before you know it something inside tells you, you're ready. Don't sell the bike either, case your thinking about it. See you Thursday if your there.
Yo Anthony,
Dude - take 5 but don't quit! Check this - I blew out my right knee @ vans. Got it fixed and rode with a brace – wound up scratching the crap out of my brace and frame - oh well. Then I blew out my right shoulder and snapped a couple of ribs also @ vans (my chicky had to help me get dressed for 2 weeks). Putting salt on the wound – after Kohl’s destroyed Vans and out of pure curiosity, I went down there to see what department my broken body parts were residing in. Whelp – turns out that my knee is smack dab in the granny panny isle and if that wasn’t bad enough my shoulder & ribs are in the granny bra isle (one shivers with a nasty image of granny’s and pannies!!!).
Now I’m facing another injury – this time it’s my left shoulder that I blew out @ Cunningham (by the way you rock with your emergency response!!!). Next Thursday I’m going to visit my old pal Mr. Sports Surgeon to see how hosed my shoulder really is. Visit will probably consist of a couple X-Rays an MRI and most likely a follow up with the usual shop talk – example: Have you considered another sport? No? Oh, Ok, we can fix it!
So the moral to this story is that we obviously have thrill issues and if you bail on riding you’re gonna have to find a new facet and then put another ton of money and energy in to it. Take 5, heal up, and then jump back in where you left off!
That’s my plan :O]
Now stop with the madness, order me a new shoulder and let’s do Woodward!!!
I was informed yesterday afternoon of the real reason why you're quitting and selling your bike, Anthony. If only I could edit the poll to include "That bastard is totally fucking pussy-whipped! What a fag!"
WHAT!?$%# PUSSY WHIPPED? Asian-lee tell me it is not true. NEWSFLASH, your bike will be around longer than her and you. What does that mean you ask? That somethings in life last forever like your love of riding a bike. If she cannot see that, than cut her loose. How stupid are you going to fell when you break up less than a year from now, and all those great sessions you missed out on because you were being controlled like a puppet. Another NEWSFLASH, there are a lot of girls out there and ones that respect what their men do because they care about what is important to them. Take Dakota for instance, his woman comes out to the sessions sometimes and brings her own chair, what more could any rider ask for. Get your priorities straight, your a little too young in my opinion to be dropping things for anyone but yourself. What does she like? Find out and then tell her you do not want her to do that anymore. Shit go on myspace, there are tons of girls to hit on I would think. Shame on you if this is true on top of that line of possible bullshit about you wanting to quit because you crash too much which I still do not believe. Sunday was the most fun I have had riding that park yet, could not imagine giving that up.
Peace,
Squirrel
Anthony,
When I first saw you ride I thought you had mad skills and you still do. I quit riding for several reasons throughout my life. But have always come back to riding now when I look back I wish I would have never quit riding when I was younger. But I always had a kept my bike knowing I would pick it back up. I ride now because it is fun and I like hanging out with old friends, meeting new friends and riders. Nothing wrong with taking time out to let injuries heel, especially concussions.
But do what you feel is right, and when you are 30 and start riding again you will say damn I wish I never quit.
This is my worst concussion.

Holy shit V-dogg, I do not like watching that. What a shot! Happened so easily and quick. But you came back, I might need that full face after all. See you Sunday big guy!
Squirrel
That is why you will always see me riding with a full face helmet. It will not stop the consussions, but it helps from facial damage. Post it on your site if you want.
ohh shit!!!!! What a wreck! 1st air was nice though!
