Rider Visiting from Georgia
Tue, 08/12/2008 - 1:09pm — Yellowbeard
My name is Mike Clements. I'm from Georgia and I work for a computer memory manufacturer in San Jose (Fremont), Corsair Memory. I'll be visiting SJ in September from about the 13th thru the 20th or so. I'd like to bring my bike if there will be anyone to ride and hang out with. Anything going on around that time?
Mike,
The place to ride if you are into skate parks would be Lake Cunningham in San Jose, the place has small stuff and big stuff to ride. We have a cool group of riders, so come on out. The session hours for bikes are Tuesday 3:30pm to 5:30pm, Thursday 5:30pm to darkness, Sunday 9am to 12 noon. There are some dirt jumping places like Calabazas park in San Jose/Cupertino, other riders are going to have to chime in on the dirt stuff since I don't ride dirt.

Thanks Vince. I'll ride either dirt or the park. I can probably manage the small park/street stuff. I prefer dirt and have been riding our trails here in GA, just west of Atlanta quite a bit lately. It would be cool to do either so I can meet new people, ride some, then go get a beer. LOL...now I just need to see if my boss will let me ship my bike out on the company UPS acct.
I'll keep in touch and post up for sure if I am bringing my bike.
Anyone got any advice on when/where to ride dirt? I'm trying to figure out when to fly in and if my bike is worth the trouble. Coming in Sat SEPT 13 or SUN SEPT 14 works best and need to make travel arrangements this week.
Thanks, Mike.
Everything's pretty damn dry now as far as dirt goes, and the only real trails in the South Bay are in Watsonville and Santa Cruz; maybe you'll get soem rain, though. I know that the new Santa Cruz BMX/MTB pumptrack setup is supposed to be running now.
If your coming for trails.... Cant say we are exactly overloaded with spots :( Park is the main thing that everyone rides between the bust spots and the pay park at cunningham you should be able to get a good couple sessions.
NOR*CAL BAY SHIT!
I'm arranging my trip so that I can hopefully ride or at least watch on SUN morning SEPT 14. I'll also see if work will let me attend either the TUE or THU Lake Cunningham sessions.
Does anyone know for sure if Calabazas is ridable?
It's rideable. Not great, but rideable. Depending on how recently it's been maintained, it may be pretty good, but the place is generally a dust bowl. If you come out on the 14th, though, I'm sure that someone at Cunningham would be willing to take you over there or to some of the other parks afterwards.
I'm used to riding dustbowls in the summer. And, here in Georgia our dustbowls are red.
Thanks again for the input. Work is juggling my schedule again so I don't know what day I'll be out yet.
