Warriors of Wood II Edit

ESPN just got this up. Fat Tony was smart to do his edit on Saturday night; it was so hot yesterday that my computer overheated and crashed twice when I tried to render this.

Warriors of Wood II Preview

Ryan took a break from working on Warriors of Wood yesterday to do this short interview with me. Stop by and help him out today if you can, and be sure to be there on Saturday! Also, to answer some questions that I’ve been asked about the event:

  1. If you’re not riding in the event, yes, you can bring your bike in. For liability reasons, they ask that you not ride it on the field or in the stands, though.
  2. If you want to ride, you can sign up as late as 2PM on Saturday, at the booth next to the main entrance. If you’re under 18, you’ll need a parent to sign your waivers.

STFBMX Grand Opening

[6/10] Greg and I headed out to the shop yesterday to help Samar and Nick out, and I also shot this little bit with Nick about Saturday’s grand opening event. Be sure to come and check out the scene, because it’s gonna be rad.

[6/1] Samar hit me up the other day to let me know that he now has the keys to the shop, and that the grand opening event is still going down on the 12th. However, the address is 728 Main Street in Martinez, and not the location in Pleasant Hill that I’d thought it was at.

[5/24] I keep forgetting to post this up, but Samar Carrillo and Nick Ramirez’s BMX-specific shop in Pleasant Hill Martinez, STFBMX, is set to open on June 12th. In the meantime, check out their website.

Click for directions.

Country Clubbin’ with Andy Maguire

I had a hell of a good time making this one with the man of the hour, Andy Maguire. In addition to the video, there’s also an interview of Andy over at ESPN.

Here’s my original, unabridged intro for the interview, by the way:

What can I say about Andy Maguire? Having been friends with him for the better part of a decade, I think it’s safe to say that I know Andy pretty well. Here are some things that you should know about Andy:

  1. He’s from San Mateo, resides in Santa Cruz, and rides at the local high school so often that he’s an honorary member of the alumni association.
  2. He wore tan shorts, rode green bikes, and had a bowl cut almost exclusively for at least six years. Imagine Doug Funnie with brown hair, except, instead of avoiding Roger Klotz, he’s bombing down handrails, slamming down Skummy D’s, and generally getting’ ledgy with the 3 for $5.
  3. He’s got a college degree from UCSC. I think that it’s a BA of some sort, but you’d expect that it’d be a BS with all that technical BMX wizardry that he throws down on that campus.
  4. He’s all about jibber-jabber combos and long manual lines, flatties and spins both ways, wild maneuvers and doing the unexpected, and making moves and drinking beers with the homies. He’s one of the friendliest riders around, so if you’re ever in the Cruz, look him up and be prepared to have a good time.
