SFBC Bike-in Movie Night: Rad

Thanks to Dennis Dowling for sending me a link to this one.

Wed., Jul. 29 | 8pm | Held in the parking lot across from the Good Hotel, 112 7th Street @ Mission St

Don’t miss the first of the SFBC’s free summer bike-in movie series with your fellow bike lovers! We’ll be kicking off the series with the beloved BMX cult classic Rad, featuring the amazing and infamous bike dance scene with a young Lori Loughlin (best known for her role as Aunt Becky on Full House).

Help us transform an ordinary parking lot in to a fabulous movie theater under the stars, complete with complimentary bike valet! Street food vendors will be out and about, including the Crème Brûlée Cart, the Magic Curry Kart, Gobba Gobba Hey, Sexy Soup Cart, Amuse Bouche SF, Sweet Constructions, Chez Spencer’s “Spencer on the Go!” Truck and more! Bring something to sit on to make your movie watching experience even more enjoyable.

Bicycle Film Festival Block Party

[7/13] First Rule is hosting the Bicycle Film Festival block party for the third year in a row. This year’s event is going to be fucking rad. We’re going to have some really good ramps this year thanks to Colin, and Jase is going to weld up some rails for us (he’s the guy that probably welded your frame if you ride a Solid, S&M, or Fit). Also, I just uploaded the new First Rule website! There’s loads of content on there, so please check it out and bookmark it. There are a few bugs still, but I should have all of those squared off tonight. In other news, look out for some new videos of Tony Campos and Kurt Russell on Vimby.

Click for full-size.

[7/2] First Rule is hosting the Bicycle Film Festival Block Party for the third year in a row. We’re going to get things started at noon on Saturday, July 18th. This year’s event will be huge: better ramps, more prizes, merch booths, and much, much more. In addition to the Block Party, at 7pm there will be showings of four BMX films! You can buy tickets here for $10. We will be giving some tickets away, but I encourage everyone to go and support local filmmakers like Marco and myself.

I Love My Bicycle: The Story Of FBM Bikes

In reaction to big business BMX companies in the early 90’s, 17 year-old Steve Crandall started a company of his own called Fat Bald Men. What began as selling t-shirts out of a backpack has turned into one of the most well respected DIY bicycle companies around. Through fortune and misfortune, the film follows FBM through their 15 years of mayhem as told by Crandall and the rest of the BMX bicycle community from close friends to influential icons like Dave Mirra and Mat Hoffman.

Final Miniramp Jam @ Colin’s

[7/2] At the request of Tony Campos and myself, the jam has been rescheduled to 8pm on Sunday, July 11th. Why, you ask? Why, Tony Naked and Beerman? Why would you do such a thing? The reason is simple, and has to do with a name and a word. The name is Cameron Birdwell, and the word is wedding. That’s right, the jam was scheduled improperly. Maybe Colin missed the memo that superman peggrabs trump everything, or perhaps he simply chose to disregard it. We may never know the truth. Now, though, with this change in timing, even those of us who’ll be present at the wedding can now be present at the jam, and a crisis has been averted. Be there.

[7/1] Sadly, the days of Colin Moyer’s ramp’s existence are coming to an end. He’s throwing a jam there on Saturday, July 11th, starting at 8pm, so if you’ve never been there before and you want to check it out, or if you just want to get some final runs in, that’s the time to do it. I’ll post more information as soon as I get it. For directions, click here

The Fresno Mosqueda bikepark is finally opening, after a two-year delay, with a jam this Friday. Thanks to Joey Garcia for forwarding the flyer to me. I know that Nick Valencia is planning on going, and is looking for more people to roll out with him, so hit him up if you’re interested.

Fresno really needs to hire a graphic designer for this sort of thing...
